They wrote their own vows. They brunched with their besties. They shared their Sips of Sunshine with us.
We wrote a lot about why we love Elise + David and their long lost high school love in their engagement shoot HERE. Well, their wedding was the culmination of all the things that are wonderful about them. But the most special is how intentional they were with every little decision. Most importantly, the venue.
Elise shared these words about how they chose to get married at The Stone House. If you learn anything, learn that their love runs deep and their marriage has been kicked off by a whole lotta history:
“My great, great, great, great grandparents, Elias & Mary Burroughs Brown, built the Stone House on Quoketaug Hill in Stonington, Connecticut back in 1825. As a little girl, I fell in love with its foundation, which stood atop the hill for nearly a century after the original estate had burned to the ground…It wasn’t until much, much later that I learned of the history that ties me to this house – and to its current owners. When the Stanton family, who purchased the house from my ancestors in the 1800s, began to rebuild the home in 2016, I learned that Elaine Bogue, one of the owners behind the restoration, was a close friend of my father’s (the kind of close where you feel like family). They ice skated on the local pond together. Went to school together. And they even marched behind the Old Mystic Fire Department in the parade, as both of their fathers served as Fire Chief of the small town.
This area means so much to my family – but also to David and me. Our first date was nearby in Mystic; we’ve walked and run along River Road; it is where we said tearful goodbyes as we went off to college; we reconnected at a bar downtown after four long years apart; and we have celebrated everything from Valentine’s Day to finally getting our marriage license in this town.”
